Nigerian Karatekas at the just concluded 2017 Union of African Karate Federation (UFAK) Zone 3 championships in Cotonou, Benin Republic, have clinched six medals. The medals comprise two gold, two silver and three bronze medals.
The gold medalists are Ujunwa Nwankwo in the U-21 female category and Oluwaseun Olorumbe in the junior male category of the individual Kata, while the silver medalists are Blessing James (-61kg) and Ebube Okpara (-67kg) both in the under 21 of the female and male categories. The bronze medalists are; Abdulazeez Bashiru (-55kg), Ujunwa Nwankwo (-68kg) and Ebube Okpara (individual Kata of the U21 male).
Dave Jegede, the Technical Representative, Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN), said in a statement that attributed the success of the team to the timely intervention of the federation’s President, Hon Silas Agara.
He added that the president have kept his promises with the team attending the championship.
